Dame Darcy Reading

I’ve been feeling in a bit of a funk recently. In the past month I’ve been hit by two viruses (cold or flu or a combination of both, I’m not sure) and the reality of our possible move to the US is really starting to sink in. I have so many mixed emotions I don’t even know what is going on anymore, so I decided to ask Dame Darcy for a bit of a check-up to put the main issues into size-manageable pieces. This is an open reading and the only card that has any sort of positional meaning is the last one.

While my first instinct is to start off reading chronologically from left to right, the Empress feels like my significator card here. Her purview, like my concerns at the moment, is all about nurturing, comfort and abundance, and right now I feel caught in between all of the new possibilities, opportunities and encounters a move to the US could bring us and the very real knowledge that we will have very little money to live on. How will we survive? How much are we, and my kids particularly, going to go without as we scramble to find our feet? Will the whole thing fail?

This seems to be a pretty accurate representation of the situation at hand so I decided to pull one more card for advice. The Four of Pentacles – solid, practical, stable and my good ole reliable stalker card. It tells me to keep my shit together and find a balance between hopes and fears. No one ever grounded their feet in the air or water of cups and swords, so it’s time to come back to earth, to give the dreams a rest for a while and try and ease up on the anxiety by simply taking it one sensible, solid step at a time.

Walking the Path of the Major Arcana – Wheel of Fortune

This post is a continuation of a month-long challenge hosted on Tarot Rebels. As I can’t commit to daily draws at the moment, I am following along at my own snail’s pace here. The concept of the challenge is to see the ways in which the energies of the Major Arcana are affecting and manifesting in my life at the moment. *

Wheel of Fortune: Where does change play a role in my life?

I find the Dame Darcy deck so comical and fun I sometimes forget just how spot on all of my readings with it have been. The deck itself makes me think of The Magician and how underneath all of that pageantry and entertainment, there is genuine depth and power. It’s a trickster.

Walking the Path of the Major Arcana – The Empress

The Empress: Where does the divine feminine energy reside in my life?

I find the appearance of the Ten of Pentacles here an interesting continuation of the Nine of Pentacles with The Magician. Where magic manifests for me in a personal and solitary context, the divine feminine resides in the much broader context of wishing to create some sort of a lasting legacy.

Royal Advice from Dame Darcy’s Mermaids

I got a bit carried away with Dame Darcy. Seriously, it’s kind of an addictive deck, so I decided to do another quick reading with it.

The Tao card I drew on my birthday (you can see the post here) for this upcoming year is ‘Discipline’, and I wrote up a little to-do list of things I want to learn and achieve in the coming 12 months. At the top of that list is re-starting my business. As this deck has identified itself as pretty sensible and sharp, I decided to try out one of Barbara Moore’s spreads from my new copy of her Tarot Spreads book, called the Royal Advice Spread, using just the courts. It’s pretty snappy and straightforward and will hopefully give me a nudge in the right direction about where to hone my focus and the energies I need to channel to start working my way through my list.

The courts are divided into four piles of Kings, Queens, Knights and Pages, with one card drawn from each.

Dame Darcy’s Mermaid Tarot: Deck Interview & First Impressions

I thought it was about time to introduce some of my new deck arrivals, so first up we have a deck interview and first impressions with the Dame Darcy Mermaid Tarot, which I purchased from Little Red Tarot (Beth’s shop is fabulous for more unusual decks, so I highly recommend taking a look).

Tell me about yourself, what is your most important characteristic?

Six Pentacles – In this card we see a ship emblazoned with pentacles on its sails, coins are piled up on the deck and pouring into the sea from its gun ports. This deck is all about cultivating feelings of abundance and generosity.

What are your strengths as a deck?

Queen of Swords – This is such an awesome looking card, her tears are flowing and yet in her eyes we see a cool determination and sharp intelligence, she’s not going to be crying for long… or is our clever Queen shedding crocodile tears?

I see that the strength of this deck lies in its pragmatic approach. It won’t drown me in esoteric symbolism, just straight up tell it like it is and push me to be stronger in the face of any challenges or setbacks.

Free Weekly Reading: A message for 12 – 18 June, 2017

Hello all! I’m so sorry I didn’t post a reading last week, with family arriving and suffering a nasty tummy bug my energy was completely depleted. I gave it a crack and pulled some cards and…nothing. Couldn’t make heads or tails of the message, so I took a much needed nap with my youngest instead.

Anyway, here I am all refreshed and with a sparkly new deck, ready to inject some oomph into this week! It may not be the oomph you’re hoping for, but it’s a bit of a kick up the bum nonetheless. Joining us in this reading are the positive vibes of my beautiful new yak bone mala, which is charged to the hilt with lunar energy, and some reinforcing ocean power in the form of a gorgeous abalone shell a friend gave me following her trip to New Zealand, which is such a perfect fit with our lady of the sea, Dame Darcy and her fabulous mermaids’ tarot.

Because this deck is new and I’m still learning my way around it, I decided to use positional meanings to give my intuition a leg-up with this unfamiliar imagery. Reading left to right: 1. Situation this week; 2. Challenge; 3. Advice; and 4. An energy that can help you.
